Great design, features, and most importantly, suction.

I've read all the reviews and I'm here to clean up those who have trash-talked this dustbuster. I do not work for Black & Decker or Amazon.com. I also do not hold any stock or interest in the aforementioned companies, but I do have an interest in spending my money wisely. So, when other consumers write misinformed, misguided, inaccurate portrayals of a product that is otherwise perfect, I feel the need to scrub their comments until all the residue is gone. Here's what I found:To begin with, no rechargeable hand-held vacuum is designed to last anywhere near an hour without recharging, and no rechargeable item with such a large battery pack will recharge in mere minutes. So, for those who make this claim, they are silly-heads. For the reviews that state it only operates between a few seconds and a few minutes, you obviously have a rare lemon. I'm quite certain B&D would not knowingly produce a 30-second dustbuster. Quit complaining and exchange it.As a... 5/5 Benjamin D. Branford (Dublin, OH) - See all my reviews, November 5, 2011

Not perfect, but for about $50?

I picked this up locally at Target because I wanted to be able to return it just in case it sucked at sucking. After having this for a month now, for about $50, you really can't go wrong with this. We brought our newborn home a month ago and I wanted to have something around to be able to pick up the cat+dog fur tumbleweeds around the house and generally keep it a bit cleaner. Our full size vacuum weighs some 15+lbs and it's just too heavy and cumbersome to bust out for daily quick cleanups.PROS:+ Lightweight and easy to handle; well balanced+ Powerful suction - the Dyson handhelds must be off the charts because this is already pretty strong as it is+ Power toggle stays on+ On-board attachments+ Holds its charge very well - perfect for cleaning around the house and on the stairs - haven't had it lose charge on me mid-cleanup yet and it holds its charge for 2-3 passes for me. Charge time really isn't an issue since I don't plan on... 4/5 Charles Chen "Keyboard Jockey" (East Windsor, NJ) - See all my reviews, April 16, 2011

    Excessive compulsive cleaner's dream

An excessive compulsive clean-freak woman had to have had her hand in designing this vac. On a scale of 1-10 it's an 11! Thank you Black and Decker for coming out with the 1st cordless hand vac with the power of a corded one. It is so darn handy yet gets the job done. Need I say more? Yes, I do. The fact that all I have to do to get into my deep crevices or to use the brush is pull out the tools (instead of hunt for them in my closet) right on the nozzle is absolutely ingenious! Oh and that vented, hard plastic sleeve that goes over the washable filter - well, it's just clever. No more crud sticking to the filter to clog things up. t just slides right off!!!! You people at Black and Decker that designed this one deserve a huge raise! Finally, a GREAT hand vac! I love, love, love it! It's perfect. You thought of EVERYTHING. Well, almost everything. Now if you could just put it on automatic pilot to seek out the dust and crud ... Oh, well, you can't have everything. Terrific Performer and Outstanding Value

Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it. At that time I lived in a 1,400 sf apartment. Now I live in a 2,500 sft home. For the past three years, this vacuum has served our family well. Pros:1. Inexpensive. $40 or less in most places.2. It picks up dirt, fuzz (and legos) as well or better than any other vacuum I've ever used. Really. Just change the bag when it gets full.3. Light weight. It's very easy to manuver and my younger kids can use it.4. Simplicity. This is a basic vac. It's easy to change the bag, wind the cord, and pull hair/crud out of the roller if necessary.5. It's got a bag. This is a personal preference, but every bagless upright I've ever used creates a small dust storm when you empty it. The bag system on this one works well.Cons:1. works fine after a year

0 4/5 R. Wys "R. Wys" (MN, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum, M085590RED (Kitchen) I was suprised to see that some of the other reviews portray this vacuum as useless. I bought mine from Target a year ago and it works wonderfully. Only complaints is that it's still pretty 'clunky' to carry around and that when you want to use the attachments it's hard to get the hose out. I've gone through a Shark brand vacuum that broke after 2 uses and an Orek XL that ate it's own cord but couldn't pick up Cheerios that my daughter spilled. I've had bad luck with vacuums but this one is doing just fine after 200+ uses.Feb. 2013: I just upgraded to a Bissel Trilogy Pet but my Dirt Devil still works wonderfully! Do not buy the canister version of this vacuum though! I've never had to replace the belt on it yet and I did replace the hose two months ago because my husband broke it where it attached to the base but it was a cheap fix. I still say this product is worth purchasing. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 19, 2008

Can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch but breaks

UPDATE After about 5 Months the part of the hose that connects to the motor ( see my pic) has had a piece break off that locks on the little peg; and now the end of the hose has a vertical crack in it where the attachments would connect. My concern all along after assembling this was the durability factor.I have a rainbow canister that I have decided to retire do the intensive assembly required for its operation. You have to fill the tank with water then place it it's caddy, place the motor on top of tank and then attach the hose from the power head to the motor. Then do the reverse to empty the water from the tank. So I decided to get an upright that you can just plug in and go.I'm not sold yet on the bag less uprights so I decided to go with the old tried and true one's with a bag. I first looked at the Eureka Upright Vacuum Cleaner 1934A, had an impressive review but no attachments and only a 5 amp motor and a little more than I wanted to spend... 1/5 Gerald Balmes "Jerry B" (Washington) - See all my reviews, October 6, 2009

loved it initially. now...not so much

i thought this was going to be the perfect solution for the daily dust that accumulates on my hardwood floors. initially, i was impressed. the swiffer seemed to pick up a lot of the dust. however, i was bothered by the plastic "vacuum" part, as it sometimes can scratch the floor if you're not careful. as another member wrote, it would have helpful if they would have put some rubber or something over the plastic vacuum part.as the months passed, i found that the vacuum didn't seem to pick up as much as it used to. i do clean the filter regularly (which is a dusty mess each time you do it), so i don't know what's going on. frankly, the vacuum just isn't strong enough for what i need it to do anymore. i've reverted back to my regular "super-strength" vacuum to get the job done.pros:* lightweight* easy to use* works great for very light jobs* small and easy to storecons:* vacuum not as strong... 2/5 E. I would give it zero stars if I could - Useless piece of junk-BUYER BEWARE !

The concept of the Swiffer Sweeper Vac is excellent, but I found this vac to be very disappointing. I followed the directions to a T and still having serious battery issues. The Vac does not hold a charge and runs out of power way too soon. Even when it held a charge longer, it never really had much suction and is only good for picking up lightweight dust, pet hair, small particles. It worked better the first month or so I had it but swiftly declined (pun intended!) Why make this item cordless to begin with? I would love it if it simply had a long cord which I could just plug in to use. Must have been designed by some high-paid CEO who has a maid and never has to use one and has some false notion that cordless is better than plug in. If you are fortunate to have one which actually works correctly, a word of caution, be careful because the hard plastic hood which is the part that has the suction, will scratch your hardwood floor. Shockingly light!

0 5/5 eV - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Dirt Devil Featherlite Cyclonic Bagless Canister Vacuum, SD40100 (Kitchen) I bought this vacuum cleaner as I had previously had a simmilar model in Germany. I was shocked by how light it is and was not confident in how well it would clean, but it does surprisingly well and after a few days' use, I trust it to last.It sucks well, has small but effective wheels on the sides of the hose at the head which ensure it won't scratch hard flooring and the rubber-ish surface on the two big wheels mean that it moves reliably over my varnished hardwood floor without marking. The little independently rotating wheel underneath, which enables it to move freely in all directions, broke off from my original model in Germany - that does not appear to be any more sturdy on this version, but I'll add a comment later if it happens.Overall, this vacuum cleaner is light and effective, moves well across my hard flooring without marking, and appears to be equally good at cleaning my rugs! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 11, 2012

    Excellent for bare floors

My previous vacuum had those motorized brush heads. It was fine, but not having any carpets in the house, I felt I was simply using a machine that had features that I did not used to their full potential. All these features also had a weight that I had to drag around while vacuuming. With this Dirt evil canister model, I had all that I needed: lightweight to quickly pick up dust, dirt and a little bit of dog hair (I have a Lhasa Apso). It's extremly easy to empty as well! Its power cord is fine for me, as I have have read somewhere on the net that some users find of somewhat short. If you have one electric outlet per room, you should be fine. I find it's power to be more than adequate: I was able to pick up some of my dog's food pellets hidden in some corners. I got this item on special at 60$ and I'm more than happy with it! Makes vacuuming much easier, lighter and faster. This model might not be powerful enough if you have a heavy shedding dog... My mom has a Pembroke... 5/5 Q. T. So What Do I Really think?

Our old Dirt Devil upright started giving off some burning smells (not the brush belt) a couple of weeks ago, so we decided to start looking around for a replacement. We have a two story house, so something to effectively vacuum the stairs without purchasing two units would be nice. Oh, and under $200 please. Dyson's are cute, but $500 is over the top for such a basic device. That led us eventually to Bissell's two lift-off canister units, the Revolution and this one, the MultiCyclonic design.Initially, I couldn't tell the difference between the two models. Then, another reviewer pointed out the two "wings" on the side of the dirt container on the Revolution model that one customer accidentally threw its two inserts out with the dirt, only to render his vacuum useless the next time he tried to use it. That narrowed it down to the MultiCyclonic for us. The Revolution also has an additional foam filter to be cleaned in its top section, which the MultiCyclonic doesn't... 5/5 Paul D. Great Vacuum

I bought this vacuum after my old Bissell died. So far I have been pretty impressed with it. The canister lift off feature is great for cleaning stairs or vacuuming your car. I was a little skeptical about the pet hair turbo attachment but it actually worked very well. I have two long haired cats (Maine Coons, so there's a lot of fur!) and the turbo brush attachment got up pet fur from places I had just vacuumed with my previous machine! It is a bagless canister, and if you've ever had a vacuum like that you know it can get messy. It doesn't seem any worse than any other bagless I've had though. As long as you empty them out before getting too full its not a big deal.Another feature that I really like is that you can turn the brushes off with a separate switch; there is a power switch and a brush switch. It is nice to be able to turn off brushes if you are trying to pick up debris on a bare floor (cat litter) and if you are using the wand attachments.I gave the... 4/5 Erin R. Smaller than expected, but a good cleaner.

Despite shipping hiccups and a few cracks in the plastic which were easily repaired with a bit of duct tape, the vacuum is a great little sucker. I have a 2 bed, 2 bath apt. with 2 cats and a large dog, so I have to empty the container a couple times each room. This would be a lot better for an apartment without pets, but in the end it works really well and cleans great, so it doesn't really bother me to empty it often. The suction is pretty amazing, my roommates GF has the original DD Breeze (12 amp, non cyclonic) and this really does a better job, pushes easier, and cleans up more dirt even while only having a 10 amp motor. The tools are simple but work fine as well and the hose connects simply and sturdily. All in all its a great cheap vacuum, I would spend a bit more if I could do it over again and get a heavier duty and larger dirt container vacuum instead. That all said, if you are debating between the ~$50 vacuums, this is probably the one to get as its the latest... 2/5 Jake Smith (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews, August 31, 2012

A Video of the the Dirt Devil Breeze

Customer Video Review Length:: 3:36 MinsThe Dirt Devil Breeze Bagless Vacuum Cleaner is a powerful but lightweight upright vacuum cleaner. I have tried other Dirt Devil upright vacuum cleaners with mixed success. Dirt Devils offer a nice combination of power and value, but I have had issues with quality. The Dirt Devil Breeze seems to follow that pattern. It was easy to assemble and offer plenty of power, but I am afraid that the canister will have issues snapping (and staying) in place.Notes- - The vacuum is lightweight and can be easily lifted with one hand - Limited number of attachments - Actually, it only has one 1 attachment - the attachment for the stairs - Bagless system - all of the debris is trapped in the canister, so the Dirt Devil Breeze does not use a bag. While it does not have bag it does have a washable and reusable filter. - Assembly is simple - it requires a philips head screw driver and about 5 minutes... 4/5 CKE (USA) - See all my reviews, December 8, 2012

    Good for the price

Can't compare this to my old "bag" Electrolux vacuum because it is not heavy duty. But the old vacuum had died and it was getting hard to find bags for it so, I decided to go bagless. For the price this vacuum is good and has good suction action. It is so light, I was afraid to assemble it, because I thought pushing the parts together would crack them. It is VERY light plastic. But, easy to assemble and nothing broke -- so far, anyway. Picks up dirt very well. The only issue is, it is EXTREMELY hard to empty. I think if a person did not have pets, it would be perfect, however since I have quite a few cats and dogs, the hair it picks up gets stuck in the top of the clean-out chamber and requires that I pull out the whole "guts" of the device to get the packed-in hair out. Quite a mess and gets dirt all over the place. So found that it's best to do this outside. Can't simply, "open the bin and dump the picked up dirt in the trash" as the pretty instruction... 3/5 Joyce Anne Laird "writer" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews, January 14, 2013
